: 0 For This Post 0 Total | By the way, about 2-3-2 format, it seems to me that 2-2-1-1-1 benefits the team with teh home court a bit less. So, its' a bit more fair (it's just too hard to win thre games in a row, even at home). I bet that, originally, the main reason was economic, probably to avoid the extra travel. But, if that's the case, why will not they adopt the same format in conference playoffs? Also, sometimes the distance within teh conference is as big (or bigger) as thedistance between teams belonging to different conferences. On the top of it, these days, every team has a plane. And many coaches openly beach about 2-3-2. So, why will not they return to a more fair format? |

Still, my point is that you want to make the series as even as possible. You do not want to put on a team an extra burden. Yet, forcing one team to play 3 games in a row at home seems to me to put just such an extra burden on that team. So, why not to change back to the original 2-2-1-1-1 system. By the way, I know it would not matter about the last series. So, I guess, I' posing a more general "philosophical" question. . | |

If so, they'd play games at a neutral site like football (though that's impractical for 7 games) and make sure both teams got a certain threshold of rest before the series. The team that wins more games gets the advantages, whatever they are. I don't think the 2-3-2 is particularly insurmountable. If fact in this series, if Orlando takes that 2nd game in LA and the overtime in Orlando, they have an incredible chance to close it out in Orlando having only had to play 2 games there. Under the 2-2-1-1-1 Orlando would have to have played 3 games in LA (and the close out game would have been in LA). (And there's no doubt in my mind that Laker team, Kobe in particular, self-destructs just like in 04) |

If so, they'd play games at a neutral site like football (though that's impractical for 7 games) and make sure both teams got a certain threshold of rest before the series." The neutral side is not practical for the reason of generating revenue, too -- the games are sold out during playoffs. I'm not sure they would eb sold out, if the games were played on the neautral court. "I don't think the 2-3-2 is particularly insurmountable." Sure, you can overcome it (an example is Heat; also, to some extent, the Pistons). I think it's more difficult for the team playing 3 in a row at home than the other arrangement would be. So, I was wondering, is the economic gain big enough to give one team that extra edge. If yes, why not the same format in the earlier rounds? |
