Any word on who is going to be there? Obviously Sharpe is going. Amir and Curry could certainly use the extra game experience.

Plaisted, Washington, and, like, 4 draft picks from this year...

hahah...

must admit, I'm also a sucker for this time of the year. the illusion of the undrafted-underdog 2nd-round-reject-who-makes-good and breaks into the Pistons rotation is always a fantasy o mine.

I don't think it's Newman's favorite time of year. It's just that Summer-League Pass is a lot cheaper than League Pass.

Newman's lusting after young men, at this time of year, is illegal in 17 states.

This is the time of year when Newman fills the Post Office truck and smuggles returnable bottles to states like Michigan to cash that $0.10 deposit.

This year, this is the time of the year where Newman gets pretty resigned to the fact that the Pistons are going to suck for a long time.

How on earth are we going to fill out the C and PF positions?

We have the backup PF and C under contract in Brown and Max. So, we're out there searching for starters. There are a lot of PFs out there to be had, so that can definitely happen. The C spot will be a little trickier, but my guess is we go a little off the reservation and get a guy that splits time with Kwame while he adjusts to more minutes. Depends on the guy.

I don't particularly love the Amir for 1.7?8?9? in cap space move, but, as I said a while ago, this offseason is a series of moves and not just one. Can't really judge until the end.

OK I should be more specific. How are we going to fill out those positions with high quality players. I don't think we're going to be able to get PF's or C's who can ever lead us to a championship. Boozer - yechhhh. Bosh isn't coming over. Charlie V from Milwaukee? Does anyone think he's a young rising star or is he a head case who got his game together enough to create some buzz going into his free agency year? I just cannot understand how anyone thinks we've got a pathway to return to being a great team anytime soon. Instead, I think we're more likely headed into an era where we're going to try out lots of guys who aren't the guys who will ever be part of the next Pistons championship team.

Well IF Dumars is indeed trying to trade for Ray Allen, it indicates that he wants to have cap space next year to go after Bosh or Wade.

Maybe the plan is Gordon and Boozer this year. Then Bosh next.

If Dumars had a plan for two big time free agents and got them both, that would be amazing. Seems too good to be true.

I don't see how Boozer and Bosh could play together -- they're both PF's and neither can defend centers.

Really you aren't going to build a contender through free agency alone. You have to draft a Superstar at some point and make wise trades.

You do realize that their are only like 5 true centers in the NBA right? Rasheed played center for us and isn't a true center. Ben Wallace isn't a true center and we won a championship with him.

Yeah, but you'd better have defensive guys who control the paint - some great shot blockers, great rebounders, physical players etc.

I don't think we'd win a thing with a Boozer, Bosh lineup, with Maxiell and Kwame backing them up. I think as things stand right now we're shy 3 big men (maybe 4) and we have to really retool at SG and SF as well, depending on which big men we can acquire over the next two to three years. The fact that we're likely to add a couple pretty good players is nice, but that alone won't come all that close to making us a serious team.

I do agree that we will need to get lucky in the draft over the next two to 3 years. We've got to add a big star - probably we need to add two really big stars not just one, and we really need Stuckey to become one as well. Until that happens, I don't expect us to become a future contender.

You don't have to play with a "true center" but you do need to be able to defend the 5 spot and control the paint. If we are going after boozer, we need to pair him with someone who can defend the 5 and hopefully block a few shots. Boozer can rebound out of his area, so that part isn't as big of a concern. We would be fine with a guy who just got boards because he was tall and wide.
