| Sixth Man | As most of you might recall, I've commandeered the awards show from JD in a bloodless coup. And now that draft mania is pretty much over and we're on the verge of the Never-Ending Lockout, I thought now might be a good time to make some announcements regarding this year's Pallys. For those of you who don't know, or for any folks that might be new, the Forum Awards (sometimes called the Pallys, sometimes called the Medzies) occur once per year. We have a list of categories, people submit their names/votes in each category, and we then have an awards show that rivals the Oscars or the Kennedy Center Awards. Okay, well maybe the ESPYs or MTV Movie Awards. IMPORTANT DATES! This year, assuming no major objections, the Forum Awards show will commence on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 7 p.m. Accordingly, ballots are due to the tabulator (i.e, me) no later than the end of the day on Sunday, August 14, 2011. BALLOTS! I've had some suggestions from folks and I've tweaked the ballot a bit this year, but not too much. The ballot is as follows: MOST LIKELY TO BE FOUND POSTING ("The Buddha"):Got all that? You can begin submitting your ballots to me at anytime. You can post them here in this open thread, send them to me via e-mail at loustef@gmail.com, or hit me up on Facebook. If you e-mail me or message me on Facebook, please be sure to reference your screen name. Lurkers, as always, are welcome to vote, but please let me know your screen name so I can verify your membership here. As always, feel free to include comments with your votes and I'll post some of the funnier ones during the Awards show. Confidentialty as far as votes will be respected. FORUMGOER PARTICIPATION! Also, I'm going to be contacting some of you over the next couple of days about "presenting" (or ' 'presenting") awards via video like last year. I'll probably assign categories to present if you're game, but if you're dying to do a particular category let me know. I've also got some ideas above and beyond videos and hopefully I can pull those off. PRIZES! For the first time ever, there will a fabulous prizes that the recipients will treasure forever. The Grand Prize will go to the forum member who receives the most total votes across all categories. That lucky winner will receive his or her own . . . ![]() . . . vintage Member's Only jacket, to wear with pride! There'll be second and third place prizes of significantly less value, but I'm still working on those. Any questions, submit them below! |

I'm also excited about the fact that the last 3 or 4 months have brought quite a few new posters that have made a distinct impact. That's been kind of a dead zone since we moved from World X. I'm also interested in seeing what those new folks think of posters here. I hope they participate.

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | By the way, iwas thinking a possible innovation, perhaps just for a few awards (like the best / funniest post). Maybe we could have a two-step approach. First we have a nominations phase, then we narrow the field to say six posts, or threads (or whichever award we feel like to honor in this special way). Then we have another round of votes just for the finalists. In fact, maybe we could even attach a "click pn" poll (I do not know we have such an option). We could even have the final vote open, and going, even during the final ceremony. Especially if we can attach a poll to it. Or put a poll on another side and link it here and keep the vote going through the finals ceremony, but everyone has only (say, 3 votes, 1st, 2nd, 3rd) ~Just a suggestion to add fun to the whole event ~~ Last edited by Stefan S; 06-27-2011 at 11:12 PM. |

re: The alligator...Lacoste has an alligator logo too. I remember in the 80's, there were kids shirts with alligators...I was trying to remember the brand. | |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | Two nominations: a) I think it was The King to KStat in the draft thread, sth like you spent ours scouting some obscure Euros rather than turning on CBS to see Knight killing the opposition. b) How to solve our SGs problem (I think it was Dyno) -- tell Rip he was traded to Utah, send him there on a one way ticket and let him sort things out. |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | I found streamlining was a better way to go. I think I shaved off a couple of categories last year and the show still took 4 hours. It is better (and more fun) having "Presenter" videos, although it's also nice to post some of the funny comments from the ballots as well. |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | Somewhat off topic...the other night I was on Twitter and Austin Daye posted a little contest which (after some help from basketball-reference) I ended up winning by giving the first correct answer. As a prize he's going sign one of his jerseys he wore at Gonzaga and send it to me. Anyways the point is - he direct messaged me to get my address, and I told him to come check out the forum (gave him the link). I doubt he's going to stop by, but he said if he does he'll let me know what his username is so I can verify it's him (so don't anyone bother making clones). Either way, I have some access to Austin Daye now via Twitter, and he's pretty good about answering back on the DM's. I'll take a pic of the jersey and post it when I receive it. |
