They could amnesty haywood next summer, release brandan wright, and go into the offseason with only dirk and Domonique Jones under contract. They could easily sign both Deron and Dwight. On the other, since I wanted to see Sheed step up to the plate and prove he was principled, as well as to have a last laugh at David Stern, bummer. Sheed was crazy to start, but he got even crazier when Flip got here. |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | In the end, Jeff, I'm saying you are right. Sheed was a crazy kid who was raised right, so to speak, by Dean Smith. He took to heart some of that UNC-way stuff and really believed in team basketball. That's why he worked better under LB than anyone else. And of course it didn't hurt that it was also possibly an excuse not to take on the mental challenge of carrying a team, which he could have. So he was always a mix of self indulgence and principles. I wanted to see the latter win out in the final chapter, but it didn't. The guy praised for being a good teammate didn't bother being a good teammate because he was too fat to go for a whole game, and that game was the Game 7 of the Finals. Shame on Sheed. : 0 For This Post 0 Total | So, revisiting briefly a previous discussion what an incredible talent Sheed was (for me, on talent, Duncan/KG level) but also what a lazy bum. He did not come across for anyone when it counted e.g., the missed D assignment in the 5th game and I do not even remember how he played in the 7th most likely, because he was on the bench with fouls. Then, next year, disqualified himself in the series with the Cavs and when on the floor played rather shitty. and also the Celts, but of course, f@c! the Celtics |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | Imho the Pistons do not win that championship without Sheed. He is what he is -- gotta take the bad with the good. Had Brown stayed I think they would have won one more. But I'll take the one. That was a helluva ride and even with my gimpy knee I think I jumped 20 ft in the air when Ben dunked an O-board on Shaq's big ass to seal the deal in game 5. Never forget that. Sheed could have been much more, I agree. But I am glad the Pistons had some of his "good." |

: 0 For This Post 1 Total | The problem wasn't getting Rasheed -- we had nothing to lose in doing that, since we weren't giving up anything. The problem was keeping him too long. Ainge gave him all that money when he was a known cancer on a 30-win team. What could the Pistons have gotten for him before that happened? |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | Agreed. I always thought that if you were going to have that guy you needed the right environment for him. I don't know that there was another coach out there that would have been right, though. Especially on that team, where the Big Four's sense of entitlement was crazy. |

: 0 For This Post 1 Total | That's too bad. Hopefully the loss won't hurt the interest in Lin--it's been a lot of fun. I'd love to have a PG doing what Lin did over the last 10 or so games. He wouldn't be the first PG to look bad vs. Miami... |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | They were throwing all kind of stuff and different looks at Lin, including multiple double teams especially early in the game. It looked like Miami's game plan was to rattle and neutralize Lin and force others (Melo, Amare) to beat them. It also looked like it worked. Right from the beginning Lin had multiple turnovers and never was able to find a comfort zone. |

: 0 For This Post 3 Total | Lin's not a great ballhandler. Nor is he a superior athlete. Teams that pressure him will make it difficult for him to be effective. I think he'll adjust somewhat, but the guy isn't 20 years old with several seasons to go before he works on his weaknesses and builds up his skill level. He's 23, and these are things he supposedly would already have been working on for the last few years. Those existing weakness could well be a red flag in terms of him ever being an elite PG. I don't think he's ever going to be the type of PG who has the ball in his hands all the time, and who holds his dribble until he makes the key pass leading right to the score, ala Nash or Kidd or Rubio. Instead, he's going to need to be on a team on which he shares the playmaking duties. He does have superior first-tier offensive players around him like Melo and Amare who really should be the focus of the Knicks offense. And he is really good at leading his team in transition BB, which should be a strength for the Knicks. I do think he can be a valuable player on strong teams. But we don't know yet how he's going to hold up when he doesn't have the crowds wildly behind him. As the hysteria over him settles down, the question is what Lin will be like over the course of a long season. |

: 0 For This Post 1 Total | I'm sorry, I don't mean to revisit this, but I find it absolutely hilarious that someone offered the notion that Lin is simply motivated by the crowds and the adoration. Look, the guy might not be as good as the hysteria, he might be in part a product of the system, but the dude has been cut by more than a few teams and was sleeping on his brother's couch a few weeks ago. I think the motivation component is there and completely separate from any "adoration." If only Austin Daye had an ounce of what this kid has. |

Some great tales, including getting stoned off the court by rival fans. Some of the courts were outdoors. None of it could I get on the record though, which was a shame. |
