| Starter | They have not had this kind of beef on the team since the days of Cecil, Deer, Inky and Tettleton. You have to like the way Illitch didn't just give up on the season before it started. They should be very fun to watch.

One difference between this team and Cecil's team is a strong starting rotation. I am worried that their defense will completely suck though (well, except center). Should be a very fun year. |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | Here's probably my favorite Tigers article -- from 12/20/2009. Small story about Al Kaline that highlights the kind of man he is. I tried to bring up the story from the freep but found out you have to pay for archived articles. I had copy/pasted it on another forum back then and here it is: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Call of a lifetime to a dying fan My Dad, Edward Sidney Baker, was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers. He lived in New York State, but all I could remember growing up was his speaking of Al Kaline. My Dad got sick in 1997 with cancer and was sick for two years before passing on June 15, 1999. I wrote to Al Kaline (in May 1999), telling him about my father, how much my Dad admired him and that Dad was dying from cancer. On June 11, 1999, my telephone rang here in Michigan. It was Mr. Kaline himself. He asked me if it would be OK for him to call my Dad. I waited a while at my home and my phone rang again. It was my Dad. I answered and he said “I just got the biggest thrill of my entire life.” I can’t tell you how much it meant to me that Mr. Kaline was kind enough to call my Dad, making his final days so happy. |

If he really fucked up his arm riding a dirt bike, then he's an idiot. Sizemore tore his knee up, too. I never liked him much, but performed well in OAK last year. A couple of bad days for former Tigers. |

Well, a first round pick, but whatever. When we got Miggy, we gave up our two best prospects in Maybin/Miller. If that were the case with Prince, we lose Turner and Castellanos. Well, we still have those guys. BTW, it's taken him some time, but Maybin is rounding into a solid player. |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | Tigers win today in dramatic fashion. Couldn't get it to stream so I followed it on yahoo. Down 3 in the bottom of the 9th Cabrera hit a 3 run dinger to tie it. In the 11th Boston scored twice. Young hit a sac fly to make it 11-10, then Avila followed with a 2 run dinger to win it in a walk off in the bottom of the 11th. 3-0! Bosox and Yankees both 0-3 as Rays sweep their series. The Rays have the best pitching staff in baseball and imho only the Giants are close. The Tigers should have a good chance this year, but imho the Rays are the best overall team in baseball. They will be very hard to beat with their starting rotation. I'm stoked for a fun summer. Go Tigers! |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | It's early, but through 15 games, our "high powered" offense is near the bottom of the AL in OPS. The part of the team that's carrying us is our middle relief. Below, Balester, Coke, and Dotel have done a really nice job in the early going. No way did I think that I'd be typing that sentence 3 weeks ago. |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | I agree that Det's O hasn't been as huge as expected, but think of this -- they've already got half of their games against the Rays, Rangers (after today) and Red Sox (who will eventually get hot) out of the way for the season. They've faced some tough pitching. Plus Cabrera had his big slump for the season. You know that will not last. With all of that they're 10-5. Not bad. |
