Default Tigers 2012- Bigger and Hungrier.

They have not had this kind of beef on the team since the days of Cecil, Deer, Inky and Tettleton.

You have to like the way Illitch didn't just give up on the season before it started. They should be very fun to watch.

If Austin Jackson can remember how to hit, this will be a truly sick line-up.

We need to get a pool going as to how long before Prince does his first Little Caesar's commercial.

One difference between this team and Cecil's team is a strong starting rotation. I am worried that their defense will completely suck though (well, except center). Should be a very fun year.

VMart's injury looks pretty bad. Had microsurgery today. The ACL repair is in another 6-8 weeks. Hope he can eventually come back close to who he was last season.

Here's probably my favorite Tigers article -- from 12/20/2009. Small story about Al Kaline that highlights the kind of man he is. I tried to bring up the story from the freep but found out you have to pay for archived articles. I had copy/pasted it on another forum back then and here it is:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Call of a lifetime to a dying fan

My Dad, Edward Sidney Baker, was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers. He lived in New York State, but all I could remember growing up was his speaking of Al Kaline.

My Dad got sick in 1997 with cancer and was sick for two years before passing on June 15, 1999. I wrote to Al Kaline (in May 1999), telling him about my father, how much my Dad admired him and that Dad was dying from cancer.

On June 11, 1999, my telephone rang here in Michigan. It was Mr. Kaline himself. He asked me if it would be OK for him to call my Dad. I waited a while at my home and my phone rang again. It was my Dad. I answered and he said “I just got the biggest thrill of my entire life.”

I can’t tell you how much it meant to me that Mr. Kaline was kind enough to call my Dad, making his final days so happy.

Looks like Joel Zumaya may finally be done. Hurt his elbow already. I feel bad for him and the Twins. In '06 he was as powerful as a pitcher can be.

I can't figure out how to ban. Maybe that's a GC only function.

I've been anti-ban but that was for real posters. This is just spam.

Just an update -- Zumaya has torn ligament and is out for the year. Also, Carlos Guilllen is already hurt in Mariners camp. Glad DD didn't offer a contract to either of those guys. Nor Ordonez.

Zumaya hurt? Tell me something I don't know. He's done. The mystery behind the "moving incident" will go down in Tigers lore. If he really fucked up his arm riding a dirt bike, then he's an idiot.

Sizemore tore his knee up, too. I never liked him much, but performed well in OAK last year.

A couple of bad days for former Tigers.

I'm really excited about this season. Prince!

The thing that nobody talks about concerning the Prince signing is that we gave up NOTHING to get him. Well, a first round pick, but whatever.

When we got Miggy, we gave up our two best prospects in Maybin/Miller. If that were the case with Prince, we lose Turner and Castellanos. Well, we still have those guys.

BTW, it's taken him some time, but Maybin is rounding into a solid player.

First time number 3 and 4 hitters each hit 2 dingers in a Tigers game since 1968. Maybe a good omen. Hope Fister's rib pull doesn't keep him out long. Miguel actually made a few really nice plays at 3B. This team will be a lot of fun to watch.

Another sick game today. This time, with the dramatics. Miggy ties it in the bottom of the 9th with a 3 run jimmy jack. Then, the Tigs go down 2 runs in the 11th. Miggy scores on a Sac Fly and then Avila wins it with a 2 run walk-off!

Tigers win today in dramatic fashion. Couldn't get it to stream so I followed it on yahoo. Down 3 in the bottom of the 9th Cabrera hit a 3 run dinger to tie it. In the 11th Boston scored twice. Young hit a sac fly to make it 11-10, then Avila followed with a 2 run dinger to win it in a walk off in the bottom of the 11th.

3-0!

Bosox and Yankees both 0-3 as Rays sweep their series. The Rays have the best pitching staff in baseball and imho only the Giants are close. The Tigers should have a good chance this year, but imho the Rays are the best overall team in baseball. They will be very hard to beat with their starting rotation. I'm stoked for a fun summer. Go Tigers!

I know they have all been at home -- but a 5-1 start against the Red Sox and Rays is pretty darn impressive. Also an odd stat -- none of those 5 wins were by a starting pitcher.

Even odder start: Verlander, 0-1 in 2 starts. Clearly, he's the weakest link. We'd be on pace to go 162-0 if we could just find a competent arm to replace him in the lineup.

Potentially good news -- VMart does not need acl repair - the microsurgery is sufficient, and he might be able to return late this season. Can you imagine adding his bat to the line-up:

So far Texas is handing the Tigers their collective asses and in their own park. Outscored 20-7 in first two games of the series. Hope Verlander can bring it in the final this eve.

You called it, Amigo.
3-2.

Good win because (I know it's early but) it seems like maybe they are in our heads or slowly but surely are getting there.

It's early, but through 15 games, our "high powered" offense is near the bottom of the AL in OPS. The part of the team that's carrying us is our middle relief. Below, Balester, Coke, and Dotel have done a really nice job in the early going.

No way did I think that I'd be typing that sentence 3 weeks ago.

I agree that Det's O hasn't been as huge as expected, but think of this -- they've already got half of their games against the Rays, Rangers (after today) and Red Sox (who will eventually get hot) out of the way for the season. They've faced some tough pitching. Plus Cabrera had his big slump for the season. You know that will not last. With all of that they're 10-5. Not bad.

The line-up will be very interesting if V-Mart can return (as speculated) before the end of the season.

Also, I saw Peralta was in the 2-hole yesterday. That is an interesting development. I don't know if it was just for 1 game, though.

Yeah, fucking idiot. His replacement totally misplayed a ball that helped the Yanks come back too last night and ruined my chance at seeing a JV victory. Thanks, Delmon!

I did get a Tiger HR ball during BP, though.

The Tigs really need help in LF.

A nice souvenir!

Not sure he is a total idiot -- at least his apology seems very sincere.
but his behavior was surely idiotic.

I'm pretty sure that anyone who erupts in epithets is a total idiot.

He's Mel Gibson.

Yes, nothing like plumbing the depths of alcoholic racists to try to find "root causes."

There are some things in society that are unacceptable at any time. Drunk or not. The truth revealed is not pretty.

I would, too.

Still, the question is whether he is a total idiot.
Maybe he was simply totally drunk (not that it's an excuse of his actions).
