: 0 For This Post 0 Total | I set up the league, the draft is scheduled for Sunday, August 28th at 8:30 pm ET. The draft should take a little over 2 hours, so schedule accordingly. Since it's our first year doing auction, we'll keep the buy in at $30. You do not want to miss an auction draft, as it's virtually impossible to be competitive in this league if you miss the live draft. Here's how auction works: Each manager starts with a budget of $200. You have to use all your money to fill up 15 roster spots (QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, W/R, TE, DEF, K, 6 Bench) 30 minutes before the draft, Yahoo will randomly set a nomination order. The person with the #1 pick will nominate the first player to go up for auction. There are a lot of strategies for how you want to nominate - most people will nominate a guy who will be expensive to force other teams to blow their budgets early. So let's say JAD has the #1 nomination spot, and he nominates Michael Vick for $10. Now everyone gets 30 seconds to bid on Vick. whoDean bids $20, Pizza Boy bids $30, Medz bids $35, Small bids $37. Each time there's a new bid, the clock jumps back up to 10 seconds. If Small is the last bid at $37 and the 10 seconds runs out without another bid, Small gets Vick and the next guy gets to nominate a guy for auction. The process keeps going until everyone's roster slots are full. By nominating a player, you automatically bid at least $1 for him - so if you blow through your money early picking up a lot of big name players, you're going to be sitting out the last few rounds while people snag great deals on players for $2 or $3. There's a lot of strategy involved, and people have different philosophies on which is the best. The key to the auction format is that you can always get the player you want, as long as you're willing to spend the most money. If you really love a guy like Dez Bryant as a sleeper this year, you don't have to worry about someone drafting him right before you get a chance to pick. Just save enough money, and you can draft a team full of players you really like. You can go top heavy and load up on 3-4 studs with a bunch of scrubs to fill the rest of your slots, or you can hoard your money and pick up a bunch of sleepers after everyone is broke to hedge your bets. Most people will pick up 1-2 studs and spread the rest of their cash out on guys they like. It's completely up to you. Suggestions - when you're budgeting your team, make sure to mentally set aside at least $1 for each of your roster slots, so you don't run out of money early. Most cheat sheets will have an estimated auction value for players based on a $200 budget. Use those to get an idea for how much you want to/should be spending on the guys you like. You could essentially put together your team mentally right now, and if you're an aggressive/smart bidder, you can have that exact team after the draft is over. That's what makes the auction format great. |

| Sixth Man | Do you get a chance to bid more than once on a player? What's the league info to join? |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | You can bid as many times as you like, as long as you're increasing the value of the bid in at least $1 increments. You can choose to raise the bid by more than $1 as well, but $1 is the minimum. The bidding will keep going until 10 seconds pass without a higher bid. I'll send out the league info when we have 12 people locked in. |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | We're using the same waiver format as the OG League for this league, which is the Acquisition Budget format. Each team will have $100 to spend on waivers over the course of the season. During the waiver period, you place a blind bid on a player. For example - Matt Forte gets hurt, and I want to pick up Marion Barber who is on waivers, but I know everyone else will want him as well. Out of my $100 budget, I'll bid $8 on Forte. If $8 is the highest bid, I'll get the player. If someone else bid $9 or $10 on Forte, they'll get the player for the amount they bid. The league won't see your bid if you don't win, so the only time people will know how much you bid on a player is if you're the highest bidder. Assuming I got him at $8, now my budget for the rest of the season is $92. Strategy comes into play in that you don't see any of the other bids - you have to blindly bid what you think is a good amount, and sometimes you have to over pay to get the guy you want. This is great when you have a guy who gets hurt, because you have the most incentive to bid on his backup, and you can't get screwed over by someone with higher waiver priority. The only time team record comes into play is if both teams blindly bid the same amount - at that point, the team with the lower record will get priority. The minimum bid for a waiver guy is $1, and Free Agent pickups after waivers clear are still free. |

| Sixth Man | Well then how about changing some of the scoring settings to set this league significantly apart from the other one with the same GM's so there is some distinction after the draft? |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | I had asked Money if he wanted to collect for the league, but he said he's having trouble logging into the forum. I've already had two payments, so I may as well just collect for this league. The dues page makes it easier to track who owes what. Any other suggestions on scoring changes? We can go to 4 points for passing TD's and -1 for INT's (Yahoo standard) |
