: 0 For This Post 0 Total | I don't like it much. Kinda boring, and sounds like a cover band with a great guitarist. But I hate it when singers try to "do" a pre-existing singer. For instance, Brian Johnson sounds nothing like Bon Scott, and it works. But I admit, I never have liked AIC much. Just not dynamic enough for me, pretty much the same mood relentlessly. Dig Mad Season, though. |

Though I'm pretty bored with all the cutesy female singing lately. And I don't like the way she sings the "oh oh oh" part as a result. It's too self aware for me.

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | The "music" is more repetitive. Much more. It's drums (the same beat all the way through) and the same 4 chords. It's produced really well. The drums sound great. It's all good, though. To each their own. Just seemed like a weird song to combat the repetitive nature and perceived dirty dancing of the Beyonce tune/video. It's like a less musical version of a Beyonce song. Just calling it how I see it, son. ![]() |

Reasonable Doubt #1 with The Blueprint very close behind. I think The trio of Heart of the City, Never Change and Song Cry is one of the best 1, 2 , 3 punches in the history of Rap music. |

I actually went to go see my friend open up for Antipop Consortium a month ago and they blow new JayZ stuff away...and I love Jay Z. Seriously, pure, raw hip hop. Beans and Sayyid just killed it on the mike. I wish they played more stuff like that on the radio. |

I've heard most of the songs on Pandora, but hearing them all together really demonstrates what a great songwriter and singer this guy is. Perhaps a bit too somber at times, but pretty damn good from start to finish. Highly recommend if you like acoustic music. |

Really late on this reply.. but Deval doesn't sound much of anything like Layne and isn't trying to sound like him.. I forget the song on the new album but there are plenty with him being the lead vocals and you can see this.. I think more or less people confuse the parts layne sang with the parts Cantrell sang.. and well.. your hearing cantrell and thinking you are hearing Deval trying to sound like layne.

I know AIC well enough to know Layne vs. Jerry. I'll give the album another listen to see if I hear the replacement guy the way you did.

Take for instance Check My Brain. Mostly all of that is Jerry... Jerry is singing the majority of the lead in that song and DeVall is singing the harmonys. Now ok.. when they were singing their old stuff was he singing like Layne.. Yea.. but that's a double edge sword.. You get him singing different you are going to have a bunch of fans pissed that they changed the singing style of the song.. e.g. when they were singing Rain When I Die at the concert.. First of all DeVall doesn't have the vocal range to even sing like Layne.. he could not hit the high notes on the chorus.. low notes he has trouble with also. I guess I just don't hear it when people hear the new stuff and say he is trying to sing like him.. If anything the first thing I thought was that the dude was singing like Hendrix and later found out that he was a Hendrix impersonator earlier in his career. So.. Can he sing like Layne.. and does he on the old stuff.. Yea.. that's probably a good part of the reason why they picked him.. Does try and sound like Layne on the new album? I don't hear it.. but perhaps that's just me and everyone else is right.
