Still, wearing a jacket, for the wind was strong, and the clouds heavy with rain. When, all of the sudden, the sky broke in half and the bright light filled in the world. Yet we did not hear any voices, no one sang soft uplifting tunes, no mysterious truths were revealed. So, we continued to walk in silence. One foot in the water, one foot on the sand. ![]() Quote:

They follow on my left side, ears back, tails straigh, front paws in that eternal circle that inspired the ancient sages to invent the yin-yang sign. Sappho outside, closer to the water. Molly inside, between Sappho and me. Both leashes in one hand, so the right one is free. One day, perhaps, she will rest her hand in mine. One day, perhaps, we will walk a bigger pack ![]() ![]() Quote:

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | I am using Canon Power Shot A570 ("just point and shoot"). I got her about two years ago for a trip to Europe, 'cause I wanted to take lots of pics of my family and friends. For a while, she was just sitting at home. Then I took her on the beach, took a few shots, tried to upload the images to the computer (and eventually Flickr) and... I discovered how simple it all is, just practically no sweat. It feels very comfy in my hand (Canons are like that because their right sides where you put batteries is kind of thicker or a bit buldged, so you can have a really solid grip), it fits nicely in a little pouch that came with it, it's just a really nice toy. So, now I take her with me almost everywhere, except when I feel like I do not want to "look for shots." The whole package (i.e., the camera, pouch, batteries, recharger, cables, and so on) costed about $250, on the internet. I think you could get one for less these days. But... I noticed that a bigger Canon (like Rebel XTI 400D) takes pics of much better resolutions and quality. So, maybe I'll buy one when I have some extra cash (it will cost about $500). Th downside is that Rbel is much bigger and heavier. So, it may affect my entire idea of having a camera with me almost all teh time. Well, one way or another, I would have wto -- one for ordinery day takes and one for special occasions, maybe. We'll see. Last edited by Stefan S; 05-19-2009 at 01:41 PM. |

I'm not sure if I'd want to live in that kind of place but I'd say it interests me far more than the dull, could be anywhere, neighborhood I live in right now.

Those are my spoons. Yes I've had them in my family for generations. They look exactly like your spoons? What a strange coincidence. Best of luck finding them. |

The rises are practically on the beach, and in much greater proportion as on the North edge of the island, or on the Mustang island. Hence, lots of building in those shots (even more in what I posted on Flickr). Also, there is much more beach police there, so it's harder to let the dogs off leash (which I love to do). |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | Yes, and not (in two different respects). That is, I live in an appartment complex that is kind of on the Corpus Christi Bay. So, the beach is literally 200 yards from me. But I do not like to go to that beach, 'cause it's too urban, too close to human establishments and cats go there, too, so I cannot let the ladies off leash, and so on. By the way, I made a conscios choice about living in the apptartment -- I did not want to become lazy about walking my dogs (many people who have houses just let their dogs raom in the gardens; I wanted to walk them so I put myself in the situation where I have to walk them). The Mustang Island and the Padre Island are about 10-15 minutes ride from me (depending where we want to go, which depends on tides and winds). So, those are our usual roaming grounds. I'm thinking about buying some property. I'm not sure that the island is the right place for me, though. On one hand, we would roam a bit more, probably twice a day. On the other hand, it's but a matter of time before a hurricane will strike Corpus Christi again. So, for now, I cross the bridge when I want to be on the (real) beach. Still I've been able to stick with my routine and generally I am in a good spirit. Untill that morning, a week ago. My mother called from overseas to wish me happy birdthay. But I was out, walking the dogs. It was probably better that way, for I might have become all mushy talking with her, and mushy is not exactly what I wanted to be. Still, I wish I could give her a hug and a kiss. ![]() ![]() Quote:

Seriously, they are keeping it on the wall and they will have me teach in another room next year. I got a lot of lip service about how they respect my wishes, blah, blah, blah. The whole situation was handled poorly. Students think I'm some sort of homophobe or prude, and I got some grief for it. It's frustrating. I don't have a problem with the Vitruvian man or it's relationship with math. In fact, I'm pretty sure that a tie I often wear was the inspiration. My tie shows a series of Da Vinci engineering sketches and the V-man is the most prominent of them. I know the art teacher liked it and the background color of the tie and the room is the same off-yellow. Anyway, I finished the year teaching in the room, and the answer is, no, you don't get "used" to a large naked man in the back of the room. Especially when there is nothing else to distract your attention. As I put it to one of the students: As a teacher, you live with the decor of your classroom. I don't particularly care to live with a naked man. | |
